Check it out – a new technique!

I cut all the way past the edges on this one, so it has no frame. I stained the edges and the back the darker colour, as well. I also used one of the new cutting bits we got. The interior angles are really sharp and beautiful, and the Pegasus is so gentle. I love it.

If somebody wants it, I will let somebody reserve it before I list it tomorrow and the price will be $20. If I list it without a reservation it’ll be $25. (Just comment, first come first serve.)

I spent all day working on drywall. I’m going to do more tomorrow. (and tomorrow’s tomorrow)

In other news, I have some new tools arriving tonight and I AM EXCITED. There will be photos soon I promise.

Today wasn’t so great. I had been thinking all day of what to do for my photo, and then the day just slid away from me. Today was a bad day for parking lots – I slipped and fell down on ice earlier in the afternoon and dislocated my knee (I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which means it’s very easy to do, but man, it doesn’t get less painful, especially if you have spare parts in there) and then later in the evening I got into a bit of a fender-bender with an idiot who doesn’t know how to drive his truck (and then he ran away, but not before I jotted down his license plate number).

So my ideas for making some art this evening… meh. There will be art tomorrow.

My knee will be okay (it’s started to bruise slightly but hey! it’s not green, so that’s something.) and my car will be okay and there will be more artistic ideas.

In other news, I am very excited that people have been receptive to my woodworking. Yey! Thank you all. I have been working on some new designs and I want to ask you – what would you like to see?

Today I worked on SO MANY THINGS. Did some wood carving – including a piece on *pine!* For those not-in-the-know, it’s far easier to do carving on hard woods. As a rule, the harder the wood the better. Softer woods tend to chew rather than cut cleanly. Pine – the wood your average 2×4 is made from – is really soft, but also really lightweight. It has decent strength (decent enough that they build houses out of it) and the weight is really the key – this makes it popular for a LOT of uses.

So my victory for figuring out the proper way to carve into pine and have it look decent when I’m finished – that was exciting. I don’t have any pictures yet, but I will soon.

I was also teased pretty hard by a piece of equipment I’ve just been itching to use since we got it in late November. The gantry router has been missing a couple key pieces (toolholders) – you can’t use the machine without them. We got the toolholders, and then today we fiiiiiiiiiiinally got the bolts that go in the top of them (they’re very particular). We had to machine them down slightly which was rather terrifying and then… and then … we realised we got the wrong toolholder, but we didn’t really have a good way to figure that out without the bolts. So we’re back at Square One.

I’m annoyed, but what can you do?

It looks like this is going to be a busy weekend. I hope I’m ready.

I’ve been hyper-busy as you have likely seen and thus haven’t really had a chance to show off much lately. I’ve also been doing some custom orders (not woodworking) which are not exactly the prettiest things in the world (but are super useful, so there’s that.)

This is a test piece I did with my new software. Wee. It works way, way better than what I was using. I’m also waiting on the last component for the big router table “any day now” (maybe today!) at which point I’m going to do So. Much. More.
